A Song of Fire and Ice

I just finished A Game of Thrones.
Homeslice deserved that Hugo for the Daenerys bits.
I was and recently rebecame a big fan of the Wheel of Time series, but you know what? After only one book I'm thinking this will be much better as for one it seems it has actual characters and for two he hasn't been riding the woooo MAGIC! too hard.
Am I wrong? My enjoyment for the first book has disturbing parallels for the affection I had for the Dragon and the Unicorn, which was not rewarded by the subsequent novels.
I'll keep reading regardless, I always finish a book or a series.
It took me two years to finish Battlefield Earth, those were bad years.
I will finish Gravity's Rainbow before I die. The Wild Palms, too.
The only reason I didn't finish the x and the x series is because I lost the last one and they don't make it anymore and I don't feel like ordering it off the intertron.
I just need to know if Martin's series starts to suck so I can steel myself for disappointment.
Or do I?
You tell me.
