^^^ THIS.

But fuck those other wankers, Liam Howlett is the shit.

I was listening to this track in high school (1994) along with Pearl Jam & Nirvana. True story.
When I finally heard it in 1996 on a CD import of Music For A Jilted Generation, I hated it. Fucking eurotrash screaming at every possible moment HEY LOOK AT ME! Prodigy instrumental ftw.

Ummmmm.. Firestarter was released in 1996 and was part of the Album "The fat of the land". How could you have heard it two years earlier and heard it on an album it was never meant to be part of?

^^^ fat of the land, that's what I meant. At least I had the year correct.
And I heard it earlier because, as I implied, the instrumental version was in the game Wip3out for the PlayStation. If you popped the game disk into a CD player, it would play all the in-game tracks like it was an audio CD.

The point is that I heard it and loved it for several months, and then when the single/music video/album came out with lyrics, it sucked balls.

I didn't mind it so much. I don't think Flint was ever meant to be a lyricist or a vocalist. He was just a crazy dancer that Howlett took "inspiration" from. Having said that, I think Howlett must have felt the same way as you considering the next album after TFOTL featured zero contributions from Flint or Maxim. Ironically most fans felt that album was "missing something".

*shrugs*

^^^
After watching that video, I half expected my phone to ring and hear a voice on the other end tell me, "SEVEN DAYS."
