Oil change

Post by eamon angelface » 15 Feb 2007 04:08

How often do you get your car's oil changed.

I just got it done.

German car.

6 liters of oil. Synthetic. Flush too.

104 CAD (about 95 USD)

I get it done every 3 thousand km's as is customary on foreign cars with the long life oil.

I still feel like I spent too much for some reason. Maybe cause they 'gave me a deal cause I paid cash'?

This thread makes me suspicious.

...

I get my car's oil changed...every couple of thousand miles.

That and a tire rotation runs me about $50. Which I pay for by check.

My car's American, even though it's a Honda, it having been made in Kentucky and all.

I used to find it interesting that a good deal of "foreign" (i.e. Honda, Toyota) cars are made in the US or Mexico, while the American brands are made in Canada...or Mexico.

But now I care probably as much as anyone else.

You feel like that because you did spend too much. 95 bucks? Yikes.

From what I've heard, you don't need to use synthetic oil unless you drive a highly-tuned sports car (Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette, Viper), or something with a hand-built engine like an Aston Martin or something from BMW's M-division or Mercedes' AMG. Or unless you are planning to keep your car until it hits 100,000 miles.

And you change your oil every 3000 km? 'Long life oil'? That's like every 1900 miles or so. Waaaay too often. Unless you are driving your car particularly hard or in harsh conditions (dusty or mountainous terrain). Normal cars that are driven normally by normal drivers can go 5000 to 7500 miles between oil/oil filter changes.

I get my car tuned up (oil/filter change, fluid check, tire rotation, etc) every 3,000 miles at Pacific Ford where I bought it.

It's included with my car's monthly payment ($15 extra a month) so I don't really worry about it until I hit that next milage point.

Now that I think about it... it gets done roughtly every 9-10 weeks.

I thought it was way high. The guy next to me had a Murano in and he'd gone 8000km between oil changes and the mechanic said the exact same things to him. Fuckin scammer. I should have paid more attention.

I mean mine does have over 100,000 km's and it is one of the latter you mentioned but I don't drive it hard and I don't think driving it in snow counts as punishing it.

Bah. I will buy a Crossfire soon enough. :D :D :D
