Best concert/show you ever saw?
Best concert/show you ever saw?
Mine would have to be U2, Elevation Tour, Philips Arena, ATL, GA, 11/30/2001.
Yeah, you read that right...a little over a two and a half months after 9/11.
As the band started playing 'One' at the opening of the second encore, they projected the names of FDNY, NYPD and those killed on the four planes on large screens hanging from the arena ceiling and scrolled them upwards, as though they were rising to heaven. As they moved into 'Peace On Earth' the projection changed, beaming the names of the thousands of dead in the Towers and the Pentagon on the walls all around the arena.
It was one of the most emotional scenes I have ever seen (will see) at a rock concert. I was in tears by the end, as were many around me, and we all stood in near silence at the end of the final song before breaking into applause for the greatest band in the world.

6/22/00: 311 and Incubus. It was one of 311's 10th anniversary shows, they played 33 or so songs that night including their first 2 albums all the way through and songs that hadn't been played in 6 years. It was amazing, I was dead center about 10 rows back.
Incubus opening was amazing too. My two favorite bands at the time on the same stage.

Pop Disaster tour (Green Day / Blink 182 / some band I forget at the moment that opened for them), saw 'em at The Palace of Auburn Hills.
Damn that show was badass. Blink wasn't as good as I'd hoped, but they were awesome... especially Travis playing the drums as he (and the drums) were being spun upside-down.
And Green Day always puts on a badass show. Not that I'd know, I've only seen them once. But it was badass.
(U2 have always, even from their beginnings, been uber-famous for putting on an awesome fucking show. Too bad it costs a million bazillion dollars to go see them now. That and I don't really like them as much as I did many years ago.)

U2's 1997 Halloween Night at the Silverdome in Auburn Hills, Mi. Popmart tour. It was the second performance I saw of them (first was in Chicago) with close friends and we had 6th row on the floor. My buddy, a huge U2 fan, was wearing our Bono Fly (tm) glasses. Bono noticed him, asked for the glasses, put them on and broke into "The Fly" in the middle of "Streets".
The Edge never missed a beat and followed Bono perfectly into the sudden diversion and right out of it. Amazing.
We never got the glasses back, but I still have my pair.

TFP - I'm pretty sure Jimmy Eat World was the third band on that tour with Green Day and Blink.
As for mine it's hard for me to choose one. Seeing Coldplay 2nd row center last March is up there. Getting $250 face value tickets for $75 was very satisfying. Also seeing Mayer last December at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA was amazing. Seeing your favorite big name artist in a small, intimate venue is incredible.

Tch, no, it definitely wasn't them. Some semi-emo band that started with a G though.Zorak wrote:TFP - I'm pretty sure Jimmy Eat World was the third band on that tour with Green Day and Blink.
If it was Jimmy Eat World I would definitely have remembered. I want to have sex with all of them at the same time. Or just lay on a bed talking to them for hours about stupid things.

prolly Faith No More, Metallica, and Guns N' Roses
July 25, 1992 - Rich Stadium, Buffalo
the Metallica set was awesome. between the Metallica and GNR sets 80,000 people were throwing plastic beer cups across the stadium cause Axl made the crowd wait like 2 hours before the band took the stage.
during the opening solo to Sweet Child O' Mine, Slash's guitar came unplugged ...Axl went into some long speech about how it wouldn't be a true GNR show if they didn't fuck-up at some point.
all in all a good show...about 7 hours long.
