Unfortunately, yes.

It's $499 for the 4GB version, and $599 for the 8GB.

However, this will not stop me from bearing the iPhone's children.

Cingluar has the exclusive contract in the states for it.

Video player, phone, MP3 all in one. For 499 that ain't too bad. I may even spring for the 8G.

The whole partnership with Yahoo part bothers me though. Yahoo sucks.

They pushed the Yahoo POP3 though in the presentation. That sucks. Plus I've never really gotten used to Safari. I guess I will now though.

I wonder what vid format it'll play? .mov? That'll eat 4G pretty quick.

Steve pushed the downloadable videos (TV, movies, music vids) from the iTunes Store, which I believe are H.264 (MP4?).

Although one would assume it will also play any .mov files as well through Quicktime, I dunno about .avi, .wmv, etc. Guess we'll have to wait and see...

If that's the case someone go register MP4converter.com

It's a simple enough program. Takes about 5 mins to crunch a 30 min episode down to the 100M MP4.

SO glad I didn't spring for the new Archos now.

A car manufacturer or after market specialist would be wise to start working on docks for those badboys now.

The celebration surrounding the launch of Apple’s new iPhone mobile handset was cut short on Wednesday after Cisco Systems, which owns the rights to the iPhone name, said it would sue Apple for trademark infringement.

In a statement issued after the close of trading on Wednesday, the world’s biggest maker of data networking equipment said it would seek an injunction to prevent Apple from brandishing the mark.

“Cisco entered into negotiations with Apple in good faith after Apple repeatedly asked permission to use Cisco’s iPhone name,” said Mark Chandler, senior vice president and general counsel, Cisco. “There is no doubt that Apple’s new phone is very exciting, but they should not be using our trademark without our permission.”
Too bad, yep too bad.

ps- let me know when a 20GB (or bigger) version of a widescreen/touchscreen iPod is available... I don't need another phone for $599; i'd only use it for music and movies.

Yer gonna make angelbaby cry.

Call me "Old" but I just don't give a shit to watch movies on a postage stamp sized screen.

I do want to change out my phone to something that integrates my PDA and my phone together, but thats just from the convenience of carrying one device around. I haven't done it yet, because, apparently, I enjoy dropping my phone on an almost daily basis. Dropping a free phone is fine, dropping a $200+ piece of technology isn't.

meh, $600 is a bit much (same cost as a PS3!). Especially since you HAVE to have Cingular, and you HAVE to get a brand new 2-year contract (current customers included).

nothx

Oh, and Apple will probably lose the lawsuit over the name. And it'll be funny.
