Just so everyone knows, I like apple products. Very good designs.. if it wasn't for apple, half the vendors out there wouldn't even bother with trying to make thier computers look half decent... but I also don't get why everyone is getting a hard-on from these products...
ooh a mac in a small box....
ooh a usb key...
ooh SHUFFLE...
on the flip side for the bashers, they're entry level products.. they're SUPPOSE to be cheap looking and lacking functions...
What bothers me more than anything about this whole thing is now all the mac-lovers and apple are gonna try and take credit for the RANDOM function, as if it was some ingenious thing they came up with.. uhh hello??
Myself and many other people around the world have been using RANDOM for years, trying to pawn it off as some novel feature is gay... it's like saying "VOLUME!! Apple's next newest innovative feature!"

I initially thought it seemed really stupid, the Ipod shuffle, but I get the idea of it being an entry level player. WHat I really hate about it the way they are promoting it, like they came up with these new feature called "shuffle". Like no one has ever heard of this grand idea. Just say it's an extremely small iPod, no need to act like it's some novel invention.
i already have a supercomputer (trumps any alienware cuz i made it) but it would be cool to have that little mac hooked up to my bigscreen tv. i could mess around with osx and jaguar, itunes, iphoto, imovie, and look at hi res pr0n on my TV! and it's like the size of my dreamcast! too cool! id put a bunch of mp3s and porn on it, starting with my entire collection of hi res celebs, ending with my porn vid clips. oo i can't wait, but maybe i should spend that money on a new monitor, my 17 inch crt is getting dead pixels, and the contrast has gotten darker.

no one is saying apple came up with the idea. the point was on a player of its type it should be THE way to use it. Rather than an expensive space and energy taking lcd screen. Shuffle use to be a hands off function... now it is THE function. They realized many use this featuer anyway but also that with the way the player is shuffle should be THE way.

The good thing about bacon is once it's a day old and has been sitting out on that same paper towel soaking up grease for so long, you just throw it out and you don't really have to think about it anymore. In the bigger picture of society, sausage just rocks, sitting there next to your eggs, whilst bacon, well, in the end it's just shrivelled up and old and useless. Just say no to bacon trolls, they don't go with eggs.

Well I don't know about all of you, but I like my mp3 player to have a lcd screen so that I know which song I'm listening to. Even if it holds 512 mb of flash memory, I'd play it in order most likely because unlike the ipod, that isn't alot of songs that you could put up on there. With the iPod u could put ur entire collection and then it be appropriate for shuffle mode, but not with a flash based player.

Watch the keynote, Steve Jobs says that Apple has noticed that one of the major ways people have been using their iPod is by shoving random music on it and playing it with shuffle. He basically says that since so many users do this, and they want to make a cheap player, it makes sense to get rid of the screen and build a product SPECIFICALLY for this. There's no claim that they invented shuffle, the claim is that they recognized a specific need, noticed that it could reduce costs significantly by getting rid of the screen, make it lighter, smaller, everything that people who want this type of product would want. They created the first player based specifically around shuffle, not shuffle itself.
In my mind, it's a great idea, and it's what Apple does. They create different products for different people rather than the one size fits all crap that most people make.

I have an ipod, but have never used a flash player. I would assume that most of the flash players have the shuffle function. In which case they are just emulating the millions of flash players out there. No great invention here, just another dime a dozen flash player.pottemeat wrote:Watch the keynote, Steve Jobs says that Apple has noticed that one of the major ways people have been using their iPod is by shoving random music on it and playing it with shuffle. However, if no flash players have the shuffle function, I guess i applaud apple for fixing an oversight. I just can't believe that no one would have made a flash player with such a simple feature as shuffle.
The point is not that other players have the shuffle function, it's that they're ridiculously complicated and have a lot of features that they don't need to have for the person who wants to take with them to the gym and not bother with a screen or an overblown interface. This is what Steve jobs CLEARLY said. The player has volume, play/back/forward and a shuffle switch. Nothing else. Apple took the shuffle function, which exists in many other players, and built a product AROUND it. This happens with a whole lot of things, an example of which is the gaming console.Bartman387 wrote:I have an ipod, but have never used a flash player. its not another dime a dozen. It is incredibly small, weighs less than an ounce, uses the same synching technology that is by far the best in the land and it WILL take over the flash market. Its way cheaper for more. No LCD means it is smaller, lighter and cheaper. And shuffle... they dont come off like they invented it but they DID come up with the idea to use shuffle as THE way to navigate. Also the synching is great... you can synch specific playlists, drag and drob, OR use Autofll which will randomly select songs from your library. And i believe you will be able to give it criteria to select from your library much like a smart playlist. And being that its an iPod you know it will have the best and most accesories out there. This product doesnt appeal to me.. I love my 20gb...but for many it will. Especially runners or anything like that i think. Plus the shuffle girl is HOT
